The municipality of Larçay has committed a Complete resumption of roads in order to create a continuous and safe route for pedestrians and cyclists, at the municipal level.
The project focuses on a linear of about one kilometer, previously undeveloped, comprising:
- a cycling portion of about 600 meters,
- pedestrian continuity along the entire section.
This development, oriented towards an artisanal zone, presents a local functional interest, with no major tourist vocation. In this context, the community needed to equip itself with a counting tool to respond to grant specifications, for a contract period of three years.
“We bought the box because we needed to build a smooth road, and we had to be equipped to keep up with the number of bikes. It was part of the specifications.”
The data collected is mainly used by the technical manager of the municipality, in direct connection with the field. They can also be sent to elected officials when figures are requested, in particular in an institutional or administrative framework.
“The follow-up is done by me, as technical manager. The mayor looks at the numbers if asked. You have to be able to provide them when needed.”
While obtaining the grant was the first objective, the municipality gradually found a operational interest in monitoring bicycle traffic.
“This was not the main objective at the beginning, but it allows us to monitor bike traffic, and we are interested in that.”
